2.86 describe the structure and functioning of a simple reflex arc illustrated by the withdrawal of a finger from a hot object

  1. Stimulus – Heat, sensed by skin
  2. Receptor – Hand ‘receives’ the pain
  3. Sensory neuron  –> CNS
  4. CNS –> Relay neuron
  5. Relay neuron –> motor neuron (via synapses)
  6. Effector – electrical impulses go from the motor neuron to the muscle in hand. The hand contracts
  7. Response  – Hand moves away from hot object.
