2.85 understand that stimulation of receptors in the sense organs sends electrical impulses along nerves into and out of the central nervous system, resulting in rapid responses

  1. Receptor in sense organs detect the stimulus, electrical impulses sent along sensory neurons (Nerves) to the CNS (Spinal cord + brain)
  2. CNS, sensory neuron passes message to relay neurons through the gap called the synapse (chemicals pass the message)
  3. Real neurons pass the message to the motor neuron which goes to the effector
  • These reactions happen very quickly as it has to be an automated response
  • They happen quickly as they do not pass through the conscious part of the brain.
