2.72 describe ultrafiltration in the Bowman’s capsule and the composition of the glomerular filtrate

Glomerular filtrate

  • Excess water, salt and glucose
  • Substances you need back in the body in the kidneys tubules are chosen by selective reabsorption

Selective reabsorption

  • As the filtrate passes along the tubules and the loops of henle, glucose and protein are re-absorbed into the blood

Ultra filtration

  1. Blood arrives in the bowman’s capsule under the high pressure of an artery
  2. It travels to the glomerus where pressure increases (tubes are smaller)
  3. Components of blood are forced out of the blood vessel due to high pressure
  4. This creates glomerulus filtrate
