1.14 deduce the electronic configurations of the first 20 elements from their positions in the Periodic Table

Electrons exist around the nucleus of atoms in different energy levels called electron shells. The first shell takes a max of two electrons, the second can take a max of 8, and the third can take a max of 18.

Short hand notation – 

Carbon (C) – 2.4 (2 electrons on the inner shell, 4 electrons on the outer shell = 6 electrons in total)
