1.1 understand the arrangement, movement and energy of the particles in each of the three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas

Solid

  • Sate: ice
  • Spacing between the particles: close and touching
  • Arrangement: regular pattern
  • Movement: vibrate in their fixed positions but do not move apart
  • Energy: very little

Liquid

  • State: water
  • Spacing between the particles: close and touching
  • Arrangement: irregular
  • Movement: move around each other, sliding but always touching
  • Energy: more than solids but less than gas

Gas

  • State: water vapour
  • Spacing between the particles: far apart
  • Arrangement: irregular
  • Movement: moving freely, constantly colliding with each other
  • Energy: lots of energy
