2.23 explain the use of carbon dioxide in carbonating drinks and in fire extinguishers, in terms of its solubility and density

  • Carbonated drinks – CO2 dissolves in water for ‘fizzy drinks’
  • Fire extinguishers – CO2 is a dense gas and will sink to smother the fire. It is also unreactive and does not support combustion, preventing O2 from reacting with the fire.
