  • Magnesium oxide (white flame produces a white powder) – Metal oxides are alkaline.
  • Carbon dioxide (yellow flame – colourless gas) – non-metal oxides are alkaline
  • Sulfur dioxide (blue flame – colourless gas) – non – metal oxides are alkaline
